Welfare Services
RSA Welfare Services
Your local RSA here in Onehunga provides various welfare services designed to assist ex-servicemen and women in need, whether or not they are members of a Returned Services’ Association.
Each RSA appoints a Welfare Officer to co-ordinate these services and to give advice on the various community services available to ex-service personnel and their families.
How we advise and help
RSA assistance ranges from monetary grants for those in financial difficulty, to help with practical tasks, visiting the sick, meals-on-wheels, and offering friendship and support in times of need. With the change towards Government assistance and through the offices of the ‘Veterans Affairs of New Zealand’ , we can advise and also seek information that you may be entitled to but have been reluctant to ask about. This also covers information for Service funerals, memorial plaques and other services designed to help at this time of life for Veterans and their families.
If there is any information that is not on hand, we have the avenues and resources to actively pursue to help you out on any subject that may be relevant and advise you or your families.
Who We help
Help is available to all ex-servicemen and women, their spouses/partner, widows/widowers and dependants, whether or not they are members of an RSA. We are also able to advise families that may be seeking information from New Zealand Archives in Wellington regarding any of their fathers/ grandfathers/ grandmothers service history.
We can also assist in helping families seeking any information regarding medals awarded.
Overseas Veterans
Help and contact details for overseas veterans now resident in New Zealand and direct them to sources of information that they be have been entitled to from their home country.
Currently the Onehunga RSA Welfare Officer is Jim Senton, ably assisted by Tom Kerr, both Ex-RNZN . Jim is usually available every Thursday between 11.00 am to 1pm.
